What is physiotherapy?

This is a type of therapy that focuses on the function of the musculoskeletal system. It is performed actively or passively.

Physiotherapy (physio for short) is useful when joints and/or the back hurt and movement is difficult. This is often the case after operations, incorrect loading or "wrong posture". To improve these complaints, physiotherapists are specially trained and specialized.

The best known application method is the classical massage. This loosens muscle stiffness and tissue adhesions. We integrate trigger point and acupuncture point treatment as well as reflex zone and fascia therapy. Manual lymphatic drainage is also a component of physio. This is performed in cases of tissue swelling. Hand movements specially developed for this purpose bring about a reduction in swelling. A special bandage technique and decongestion exercises are also useful.

Physiotherapy is used to strengthen and stretch muscles, ligaments and tendons. This is supported by manual therapy, which focuses on improving the movement of the joints. Physiotherapy can be performed as a group or individual treatment. Different methods are used in our practice, such as (in extracts):

  • Manual therapy according to Kaltenborn, Sachse/Lewit, Cyriax
  • concentric and eccentric muscle training, also KG device
  • isometric tension exercises
  • back school/ gait school
  • breathing therapy
  • autogenic training
  • sensorimotor facilitation according to Janda (short foot)
  • muscle relaxation according to Jakobson
  • PNF
  • pelvic floor training
  • as well as muscle supporting K-Tape
